NIH makes different types of SBIR/STTR applications available to accommodate the varying R&D needs of small businesses. Is yours a basic Phase I project or should you be targeting a Direct to Phase II or Fast-track submission? Attend this Lunch & Learn and get an understanding of your options, an understanding of the grant numbering system and the rules for resubmissions and revisions. Learn how to navigate the National Science Foundation's SBIR/STTR program and get the chance to meet one-on-one with an SBIR/STTR expert. The National Science Foundation’s SBIR/STTR program focuses on transforming scientific discovery into products and services with commercial potential and/or societal benefit. Unlike fundamental research, the NSF SBIR/STTR program supports startups and small businesses in the creation of innovative, disruptive technologies, getting discoveries out of the lab and into the market.During this training event, attendees will spend the morning learning about SBIR/STTR basics, including what the program funds, differences between SBIR and STTR, benefits of SBIR/STTR over other funding sources, and eligibility requirements. The discussion will then focus on NSF’s structure, mission and topic areas, developing a project plan, identifying the problem, defining feasibility/proving commercial viability, and how to approach proposal development.Lunch will be provided during a midday session on the essentials of commercialization planning.The afternoon session will have two components. If you have an idea you would like to share with us for the assessment, please fill out the assessment form by January 21. BioGenerator and BBC bring this workshop to cover all aspects of writing an SBIR/STTR proposal focused on life science technologies. The workshop will include information on the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation programs, though it is timed to aid in proposal preparation for the April 5, 2020, NIH deadline and detailed emphasis will be placed on the NIH process. Training will begin with SBIR/STTR basics, including eligibility requirements, participating agencies, difference between SBIR/STTR, and essential information about the NSF program. Free parking is available on Forest Park Avenue east of S. Sarah Street and at IKEA. Please plan to arrive early to find parking.
